For a Protestant, an issue which seems troubling is the idea of an intermediary. Catholics often hear, "What's wrong with just Jesus and me?" Well, of course there's nothing wrong with a personal relationship with our Savior, but God's plan is even bigger. Deacon Tim will walk us through this plan as outlined in Scripture. I bet you'll be surprised!

Tim and Cindy,
It's been awhile since I've tuned in...sorry. After listening to this week's cast I will download some and try to catch up, great work!! I can say that I talk to and pray to a number of intermediaries that are special to me which help me in my path to holiness and unity with Christ.

PS: Tim, I toured the new Catholic Charities facility last night here in Tulsa as a possible site for Cursillo related events. You will be proud. Take care bro.

Thanks for the news, Steve. The Catholic Charities site was designed with showers and meeting rooms to accomodate groups who could "rough it" a bit for retreats.

I still have a hard time with this. I have a hard time seeing what you see in several of your proof texts.
Also, what about Hebrews 4:14-16 Which clearly states that Jesus Christ now takes the place of the Old Testament Priest and that through Him we have a direct Those verses say, "Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."
It looks then that it's saying that Jesus is our new Priest and we are to go straight to Him.?

This is my first time listening to your podcast, and, while I appreciate your trying to reach the lost, I must say that I do not agree with your selling points of needing intermediaries. I will also agree with the person who posted above me and quote Hebrews 4:14-16. Also, in the book of Hebrews, it says in chapter 7:24-28 that we can draw near to God through Christ because He is our intercessor (which He also says in His prayer to God in John 17). He talks in the past tense in this sentence that needing a priest WAS necessary but not anymore.
Tim also quoted a lot of scripture from Genesis and Exodus. During this time, the patriarchs of the families were in charge of their family's worship and relationship with God. They were the priests in their family.
Also, Tim said that intermediaries are the people who introduce others to Christ. Yes, it is our role to witness to others and share the love of Christ. However, after we have done this, we are not in the position of authority between them and Christ.
I believe that Catholics are Christians. However, I think that some of the scriptures you are using to state the need for intermediaries was before Christ came to earth. What about Matthew 11:27-29 which says "All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." Jesus is saying to go directly to Him and not someone else to go to Him for you.
Having people pray for you is a great and necessary thing, however, we don't have to rely on someone else's relationship with Christ to ensure that we will have a better Christian life.
John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." How do you explain these verses?

1 Timothy 2:5 - For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

The simple explanation, for me, is that we don't NEED intermediaries, but that God gave us to EACH OTHER, and that we GET TO HAVE other persons pray for us, plead to God for us, and express thanks to God for us. We don't need, but we CAN have other persons pray for us. God is GOOD!

Hi!
After listening to the podcast, I feel like there was nothing new given...just some left out and not discussed. Timothy 2:5 - For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. I am not a Catholic, but trust in Christ as my Saviour. Most Catholics I knew growing up in a VERY Catholic town would not have had the slightest clue what the Bible said. It was so sad. I appreciate so much what you are doing here. I wonder if there could be a further discussion on some of the verses that have been left in your comment section. Because of His grace! Denise
