In this podcast, Deacon Tim teaches us to ask what Jesus is really saying when we read the Bible. Do we distort His words to support our own world view? Deacon Tim isn't letting us off the hook! He also recommends some tools to deepen our Bible study, and here are the links to the various resources he mentions:

Hi again. I've got a computer bible that lets me look up words in the bible any way I want, and has the KJV, NAS, NIV, and ASB versions. It also has several commentaries, and I've had it for perhaps 10 years. I use it all the time, particularly Strong's and B-D-B and Thayer's to check in on the original meanings. It's been very helpful.
Somebody actually bounced me on my blog the other day about linking to a Catholic blogsite, claiming I was endorsing it. I laughed about that, as though folks who differ with us on some point are infected with something we're liable to catch if we read their writings. I thought that funny.

Bob,
Thanks for having the courage to post a lowly Catholic blog on your Baptist blog! Sorry you're getting some heat. We Catholics are often misunderstood and maligned. I'm always amazed that our critics think that there is nothing to be learned from that first 1500 years when we were a unified Church.
Thanks again! BTW, I tried to post a comment on your blog, and I couldn't get the comments page to load.

Here is a correction and some additional information. On the podcast, I attributed to the First Letter of John the statement that he who makes a friend of the world makes an enemy of God. That verse is actually in the Letter of James (Chapter 4, Verse 4).
There is no longer in print a full concordance for the New American Bible, so for that translation someone would have to use a CD or an internet version and do a word search to simulate a concordance. There is a scaled-down concordance for the NAB called The New American Bible Concise Concordance published by Oxford University Press.

Cyndi & Tim-
My recommendation if you want a Jewish resource would be Torah.org. Judaism.com is a great shopping site, that I use often...but, it is a bit lean on commentary...and unless you know the book you are ordering, it can be tricky. I also recommend that before you order a book, you make certain the text is in English and not Hebrew.

Thanks for the tip, Linda. I hope some of our listeners will check out Torah.org.

I've been listening to your podcast for several months, I recently finished going through the archives because I didn't want to miss anything. I would love a copy of Deacon Tim's cd that he mentioned in this podcast.
I really appreciate the links for further reference and study. I've recently come out of a "spiritual slump" so the podcast and the resources are very helpful with helping me as I find my path again. Thank you.

We're currently hosting a class in our home which deals in large part with keys to understanding the Bible and how the Bible interprets itself. I've thought about you so many times during the sessions, Cyndi! I know there are things with which you would not agree, but I think you would enjoy much of it.
We have quite the collection of study materials. Dh uses them a lot, but I find it easiest and quickest to look things up using blueletterbible.org. That may not always provide the depth you want, but it's a great tool.
I would be very interested to hear more about this Jewish perspective on Job. I must have missed that and I can't find it using the search tool. Do you know about when this podcast and comment was?

Jenni,
The Job story was not a podcast, but a blog post that can be found when you go to the March 2008 archives and scroll down to "Now I Digress." The action is in the comments section. Thanks for a great comment!
