Thank you for the reminder of the beauty that is humility, humility that comes with obedience. D. Tim talks of how the major struggle to make our mark or positively define ourselves in a sea of millions leads to unrest and chaos. I agree and it makes sense, God knows us already, each of us made in His image, yet each of us different. He can pick any one of us out of that sea. So who is it we are trying to make our mark for?

When I was passing along to my sis info about this blog, one small piece I remembered happened to be a discussion on obedience, but it was from another podcast--the conversion of D. Tim's son. I told my sis how he spoke of the obedience it took to sign the 'papers' when he became a deacon and how he pondered the sadness and in my words, shame, that exists today knowing full well that many priests take this same vow of obedience to a hierarchy yet fully intending not to follow it. So, it's fitting you should speak on a subject I picked up on.

Thanks again!

Thank you for the healthy reminder about obedience! I especially liked the reference to Padre Pio and how he OBEYED his superiors (unlike some modern "visionaries" or "holy" people...especially some priests and bishops like you mention!). I struggle with obedience in my own church. When our superiors aren't obedient, they don't set such a good example but then we have to be obedient to things we consider sinful? I never know what to do about that.
Thank you so much for your podcast! I love your voices and it's so nice to listen to!

Wonderful as usual!! Can't tell you how much I appreciate these little nuggets of wisdom, truth, and obedience!! (Secret grip, wink, wink!)

Laura:

You raise a difficult discernment issue. There are some things that would be CLEARLY sinful and obviously cannot be obeyed (e.g.: Go burn down the orphanage full of children), and other things that just don't seem "nice" and we might be tempted to rationalize this into 'sinful'. Your intellect is very skilled at talking your heart out of doing something you don't want to do.

Once again, I am WAY behind in listening to your podcasts. But this was very apt for me today, having just been reading about the dissent (lack of obedience) around the release of Humane Vitae 40 years ago, and the pain this dissent has caused the church.

I have been experiencing some small suffering in my life over the past few months, and the call to obedience is a kind of comfort that is unexpected, yet makes so much sense.

Peace to both of you, and thanks (again) for this apostolate.
