If Catholics believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist (and we do!), then we believe that the little piece of bread that we receive for Communion is no longer just bread, but the real presence of Jesus. I know, I know, this is where we lose many of our Protestant brethren. I guess my response would be, "Are you going to leave me too?" which is what Jesus said to the apostles after everyone left him when he laid out the idea of his own body and blood being real food. (please re-read the Bread of Life discourse beginning with John 6:25 through the end of the chapter).
If, then, we believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, then it makes sense that we could adore Him in the Eucharist, and that's what we do in Eucharistic adoration. I'll let Deacon Tim explain the particulars, but let me just say that if you'll listen to this podcast with an open mind and heart, and accept the challenge I offer at the end, your life will never be the same.
At the end of the podcast, Deacon Tim and I mention one of our favorite musicians, Michael John Poirier, and I wanted to link his site. Every CD of his is amazing, and his concerts are even better. I was excited to find that he was going to be in my area in a couple of weeks! Here's the link: Michael John Poirier
Peace be with you this week, and we'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments section!

My wife loves having music to pray to, and I think she would love one of Michael John Poirier's CDs. Which one would you recommend?
I have been blessed with a parish near my home that has around-the-clock adoration and I have my weekly hour. It certainly has been a blessing to me. We got the word from God to homeschool during adoration. Thanks for the podcast.

Andre: I have not kept up with recent releases, but I can recommend "Hello, Lord," and "Ocean of Mercy."

This is the first episode I have listened to and how wonderful that it was one of my favorite topics! I love Eucharistic Adoration - it is like the oxygen for my busy life. I have written about it many times on my blog (most recently at http://snoringscholar.blogspot.com/2008/03/causing-my-own-sleep-deprivation.html). Thanks for your work here!
Blessings to you!

Until last summer, we were in a parish in Atlanta with adoration every week for a 24 hour period (Fri after morning mass to Sat morning mass). I'd get there sometime during the day on Friday. My husband used to get up for adoration from 3-4 am with a group of men and then they'd head to the local Waffle House for an early breakfast. I was a new Catholic, and he was a cradle Catholic, but adoration brought us closer in an amazing way, even though we went separately.
We don't have adoration in our current parish here in Toronto, but your podcast has encouraged me to seek it out. Thanks for the push.
