A Weekend From God

I just finished an uplifting Cursillo weekend, and I had to tell Deacon Tim (and you!) a few spiritual insights I gained from the weekend.  If any of our listeners have been through a Cursillo or Emmaus weekend (or any other retreat, for that matter), we'd love to hear your insights in the comments section!

BTW, I mistakenly mentioned that Katie, one of the angelic singers at the weekend, was 3 months away from delivering her baby - she was actually 3 weeks away from her due date.  It's a significant difference when you hear the Christ-like sacrifice she made during the weekend!

Are You Talking to Me, God? (Part 3)

Wouldn't it be nice to have a handy little formula for discerning God's will, a  spiritual e=mc2?  You're in luck!  Deacon Tim gives us just such a formula today.  Before you get too excited, though, there is one caveat - you still have to know when to use it.  Ahhh, the spiritual life - God keeps it interesting, doesn't He?!

If you learn just one thing from Deacon Tim, I think he'd want you to know that God is speaking to you.  Right now.  Today.  Every day.  In situations that seem godly, and those that don't.  Are you listening? Are You Talking to Me, God? (Part 1)

Deacon Tim is always instructing me in the ways of God, especially those life events that seem so, well, ungodly.  Where's God in all the bad stuff?  Deacon Tim contends that God is right there, using those things for our benefit.  If you don't want to believe Deacon Tim, I understand, but there is that little Bible verse that says, "All things work together for good for them that love the Lord."  The tricky thing, though, is figuring out what God is saying to us in those less-than-perfect situations and people.  In this podcast, we lay the groundwork for this topic of discernment, and Deacon Tim promises that he has more to say in the coming weeks.  Please send this podcast to a friend in the midst of one of those rough spots in life!

The Fundamental Problem - part 2

Deacon Tim is in Ireland, and I didn't think we needed to disturb his blissful trip to the old sod of his Sullivan ancestors just to do a podcast.  This week is the follow-up to last week's podcast, and both shows were originally a couple of radio shows we did before we began podcasting.  As you know, we don't really have a plan around here; each week we go were the Holy Spirit leads us (hopefully!).  This show dovetails nicely with the last few weeks of podcasts, even though we didn't plan it that way. 

If you think we'll never stop talking about marriage, family, sex, Genesis, etc, then you should probably skip this show!  This show is a perfect summary of all we've been talking about the last few weeks, so if it still seems a bit theologically fuzzy, this show should shed some additional light.  If you're sick of the topic, then tune in next week - Deacon Tim will be back from his pilgrimage and full of spiritual insights, I'm sure. 

I don't want to scare you off from this podcast, though - Deacon Tim makes some great points:

1.  We would never pump chemicals into a river the way we do a woman's body - there would be a public outcry, Senate hearings, and demonstrations on a massive scale!

2.  In our modern attempts to absolutely control our fertility, are we committing the same sin as Adam and Eve?  Are we telling God that we know better than He does about how to conduct creation?

Hmmmm...........maybe you should listen after all and tells us what you think!
