I just finished an uplifting Cursillo weekend, and I had to tell Deacon Tim (and you!) a few spiritual insights I gained from the weekend. If any of our listeners have been through a Cursillo or Emmaus weekend (or any other retreat, for that matter), we'd love to hear your insights in the comments section!
BTW, I mistakenly mentioned that Katie, one of the angelic singers at the weekend, was 3 months away from delivering her baby - she was actually 3 weeks away from her due date. It's a significant difference when you hear the Christ-like sacrifice she made during the weekend!

Congratulations on a wonderful weekend, Cyndi! I can hear it in your voice that you are still glowing from your experience on the mountain top.
We have a Catholic retreat experience similar to Cursillo called ACTS (Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service) and based on the actions of the early Church with self-donative agape and community.
Our men came back this weekend from ACTS and filled the choir loft. Their voices were truly "magnified" with the Holy Spirit.
One more comment- one of my favorite ways to serve is in the kitchen.

Hey! what about the comic relief that is from heaven above.... I was debbie downer until I found the grace to laugh and give my saddness to God. It was pure gift! C

Connie Cursillo is referring to her pranks with the kitchen team - a frog in the dish water comes to mind...!

OK now it wasn't all fun and games. I saw the ravenous rodent (actually mole) captured in the team quarters, and heard about the pancake batter explosion all over our dear Cyndi.
Praise God for his Holy Spirit that was so evident (and magnified!) in everything from the beautiful music and the incredible food (without frogs) to the meaningful Masses and talks. The Holy Spirit was also manifest in our Christian Joy. Praise God!!!

Thanks for the great podcast about Cursillo, which holds a very special place in our hearts. The chapel team definately felt the holy spirit not only working on the canidates, but us as well. Keep spreading God's joy! God Bless!

Cursillo was an awesome life focusing event for me. I had the opportunity to attend in Aug 07 and was able to really see my role in my family and, most importantly, in my marriage. The role of the Eucharist is so powerful on the weekend.

Amen sister! I'm so glad I had the opportunity to serve with you at Cursillo. Thank you for your thoughts of serving our families in the same way. What peace and joy we will be able to experience when we do this.

I found your podcasts through PW(God love her).
Anyway, I love this cast. It wasn't until I became a mother that I realized what an honor it really is to serve others. Although I still have my moments when I get a bit overwhelmed, I try to always remind myself that in serving my family, baby, and others, I am actually connecting with and serving the Lord.
What an awesome experience it must've been to go away and serve others as they begin their journey.
Keep up the great work!

Hi Cyndi...I'm just catching up on the last few months of podcasts and listened to this one in the car while running errands today. I did a weekend similar to Cursillo (Christ Renews His Parish), and when it was my turn to host a new set of candidates, I worked in the kitchen too! I had many of the same experiences that you reported, and the weekends (both as a candidate and as a host) really changed the lives of both myself and my husband. Thanks for your thoughts, and for reminding me that I need to try to get away on retreat soon!

Excellent!!! My parents made a Cursillo here in Indianapolis when I was a kid. It moved them so deeply that they have since been involved in starting sister communities, North Florida Tres Dias and Indy Tres Dias.
As a result, I attended a Tres Dias weekend when I was 21 and have since been involved in that Cursillo-like movement, as well as Vida Nueva for youth.
I highly recommend a Christian Renewal Retreat like one of these to any of your listeners/subscribers. It has been instrumental in my spiritual formation as a christian adult.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
