If you think that the Catholic Church is down on sex, this is the podcast for you. The “restrictions” that the Church places on sex are not because we think that it is bad, but because it is so holy.
In this podcast, Deacon Tim instructs us on the “Theology of the Body,” the series of talks and writings of Pope John Paul II on sexuality.

I'm not sure I want to be the first to comment, but here I am anyway.
Excellent podcast. You and Deacon Tim are to be congratulated for the handling of this matter, and also for the fact that this is the best examination of the matter, from a spiritual angle, that I've ever seen.
To quote the governator, I'll be bock.

Excellent topic- often neglected because it's too counter-cultural or awkward. Well done!

Absolutely beautiful guys... the picture of the unity of Adam and Eve - creating - trinity and the reflection of that with God, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, awesome.
I took a class with Paul Stevens, years ago. He and his wife talk to students about sexuality. He noted that our culture is so obsessed with sex because they don't understand it.
I am reading Children of Men right now (P.D. James). In it, humanity has become infertile, no babies have been born in 25-26 years. The narrator (Theo Faron) describes the sexual condition of humanity. In the midst of infertility he says, "Sex has become among the least important of man's sensory pleasures. One might have imagined that with the fear of pregnancy permanently remove...sex would be freed for new and imaginative delights. The opposite happened. Even those men and women who would normally have no wish to breed apparently need the assurance that they could have a child if they wished. Sex totally divorced from procreation has become almost meaninglessly acrobatic."
All of these podcast so echo one another - being counter culture, marriage with a mission. You don't contradict but complement. Thanks and I look forward to next week and will ponder your question the next few days.

I had to follow the link provided with your step by step directions for the perfect chicken soup on Pioneer Woman's blog. The soup is so very close to the base for my Passover matzoh ball soup.....that I had to check out your podcast.
The first commandment G-d gave Adam was to go forth be fruitful and multiple. It is was so nice to listen to your podcast and realize how closely aligned our seperate religious beliefs are on this isue.

The quote that Barb provided from the book Children of Men is really loaded. The first thing it made me think of is what is going on in the African-American culture between men and women. It's complicated, but people close to the situation indicate that many black men are not interested in birth control, and it has almost nothing to do with wanting to be responsible for bringing up a child. Linda, I hope you'll tune in to next week's podcast, as the reflections on Genesis will be expanded. I have many Jewish reference materials on scripture which are fascinating and enriching. If modern men and women only understood the power and beauty behind ritual purifications, for example, we'd all be better off.
