Do Catholics Accept the Bible?

This week's podcast title was a question asked of Deacon Tim by a good Protestant friend.    Last week, Cyndi was asked to agree to a Statement of Faith which said,

• "The infallible Word of God, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is a complete and unified witness...."

Why do Deacon Tim and Cyndi have "issues" with these requests from our Protestant brothers and sisters, you ask?

Here's the irony:  In the first 1500 years of Christianity (3/4 of our shared Christian history), these would have been nonsensical questions.  However, in the last 500 years, the followers of Jesus Christ, Catholic and Protestant, have gotten so out-of-touch with each other that we aren't even speaking the same language sometimes. 

We Catholics have 7 'more' books in our Bible (73 books) than Protestant Christians (66 books) - do you know why?  In this podcast, Deacon Tim and Cyndi discuss the 'beginnings' of the Bibles used by both Catholics and Protestants.  (FYI  - in the podcast, Cyndi incorrectly states that there are 6 extra books - there are actually 7 - mea culpa!)

Change the World, Be a Father

In this podcast,  Deacon Tim captures the intensity of fatherhood in a way that will be a challenge to men and provocative to women.  My husband, the podcast technician (and guitarist!) is always the first to hear the podcast, and he commented, "This was very eye-opening.  I have some work to do!"

I usually try to personally enact Deacon Tim's weekly exhortations, and at first I thought I might get to coast this week.  God sort of tapped me on the shoulder, though, and reminded me that I do have a job this week:  Pray.  Pray for my husband; pray for struggling fathers; pray for divorced fathers.  Just pray. 

One caveat:  If you don't see the ideal father figure in your own home, don't nag, just pray.   Resist the urge to say,  "You really need to listen to this podcast - you could really learn something, pal."  Ask the Holy Spirit to help you present it in a way that will be heard  - I do believe it is a message that could change the world!  As always, please pass it along, especially to those fathers out there who are really doing it right.

Men - Who Needs 'Em?

Well, I do.  We do.  The Church does. 

A few years ago, Deacon Tim's message would have been jeered.  Now, I'm not so sure.......times, they may be a changin'.  I don't think there will be a middle ground on this podcast: you'll either love it or hate it.  Weigh in and let us know where you stand, and please pass this one along - I believe this is a message that needs to be heard.
